Pretoria - The North West Provincial Legislature will host its Youth Sectoral Parliament on the eve of national Youth Day.

South Africa will on Thursday commemorate the 40th anniversary of June 16.

June is celebrated as Youth Month in South Africa, with a specific focus on 16 June, which is also known as Youth Day. Youth Month pays tribute to the school pupils who lost their lives during the 16 June 1976 uprising in Soweto.

The youth parliament in Rustenburg will be held under the theme ‘Emancipation of Youth through Education, Economic Development (Entrepreneurship) and Social Cohesion for Improved Local Governance’ at Ben Marais Hall in Rustenburg Local Municipality at 9am.

The sectoral parliament discussions will focus on emancipation of youth through education, integration of youth into the mainstream of the economy through entrepreneurship and transformation of youth through social cohesion.

“The objective of the event is to afford young people in the province an opportunity to raise issues and challenges related to them as well as participate on matters around education, entrepreneurship and social cohesion in the province.

“The legislature aims to promote an inclusive democracy that affords every individual an opportunity to contribute in shaping the province and deepening democracy,” said the North West Provincial Legislature’s Media and Communications Unit.

Different youth stakeholders, which include Youth Entrepreneurship Services in the Office of the Premier, the National Youth Development Agency, Small Enterprise Development Agency and young people across the North West province will attend the event. – SAnews.gov.za
