Youth Month: SAPS recognises promising young men and women in blue

Tuesday, June 3, 2025

As the country commemorates Youth Month, the South African Police Service (SAPS) is taking the opportunity to shine the spotlight on young men and women in blue who are contributing positively to the fight against crime in South Africa.

Today, the SAPS introduces 35-year-old Major General Evelyn Makwela, the Component Head: Forensic Accounting Investigation attached to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks.

She was appointed in October 2021 from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) where she was working as an internal auditor. She has previously worked as an audit manager for Deloitte.

In her current role as Head of Forensic Accounting Investigation for the Hawks, she is responsible for providing forensic accounting support to criminal investigations such as investigating procurement irregularities and money laundering activities.

She currently has 26 investigators under her command.

Major General Makwela is also a board member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and serves as a chairperson of the audit committee of the same association.

Her message to young people is: “Do not let the circumstances of your family and where you come from determine your future. Work hard and you will be able to achieve what other people can only dream of - Ga Gona Kgomo ya boroko,” concluded Major General Makwela. – SAnews.gov.za
