Register to make your mark

Thursday, March 3, 2016

Pretoria – South Africans have been called to register for the 2016 Local Government Elections on 5 and 6 March 2016.

“Cabinet calls on all young and first-time voters to register to vote. By casting your vote, you have taken a step towards making your voice heard in the decisions that affect you and your community. Local government is in your hands!” said a Cabinet statement issued by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) on Thursday.

“Unlike with national elections, the local government elections require that you register in the ward that you reside in. It is important to have an Identity Document – both the green bar-coded ID and Smart ID card will be accepted – and to check your registration status, ward number and voting station location,” said the statement.

All Home Affairs offices will be open from 8am to 5pm on 5 and 6 March 2016, in line with the operating hours of the Independent Electoral Commission for the two days. – SAnews.gov.za
