Nelspruit - Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform Gugile Nkwinti will join the Donkerhoek community in Mpumalanga to watch Bafana's World Cup game against France today.

Nkwinti will first attend a soccer clinic at Twyfelhoek Primary School in the morning before moving on to the Donkerhoek Community Hall for the game's kick-off at 16:00.

The school was chosen by the province in conjunction with the community of Mkhondo local municipality.

"Mkhondo is one of the sites where the department is piloting the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP), whose ultimate goal is sustainable, equitable and vibrant rural communities that are characterised by social cohesion," said department spokesperson Tshepo Diale.

The former youth development coach of AmaZulu Football Club, Muzi Malinga, will be presenting the soccer clinic as well as giving a motivational talk to the kids. He's hoping to impart some of his soccer skills to the children of the Donkerhoek community.

Diale said rural development was one of the government's key priorities to ensure radical transformation in rural communities throughout the country.

"The government's rural development strategy is aimed at improved socioeconomic development and growth in rural areas.

"To this end, economic, social, information communication technology and public amenities infrastructure development is one of the key outputs of the CRDP," Diale said.

The implementation of the village viewing areas will contribute toward the achievement of this goal and the people of Mkhondo are very pleased and excited about this initiative, he said.
