MEC congratulates group for Grammy nomination

Pretoria - KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, has congratulated Ladysmith Black Mambazo on their 2016 Grammy Award nomination.

The group, which has already scooped four Grammy Awards, was nominated in the category for the Best World Music Album, for the album Music from Inala featuring Ella Spira and The Inala Ensemble.

“Ladysmith Black Mambazo continue to wave the South African flag high across the world. The group has remained relevant since its inception, appealing to both young and old generations,” said MEC Sibhidla-Saphetha.

The 58th annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on 15 February 2016.

The group won its first Grammy Award in 1988 for best traditional folk album titled Shaka Zulu. In 2005, they won the award for best traditional world music album and in 2008 they won an award for Raise Your Spirit Higher as well as Ilembe, respectively. – SAnews.gov.za
