Pretoria - Cape Town's MEC for Community Safety, Lennit Max, says police will ensure that the perpetrators of slain eight-year-old Yunus Desai, face the full might of the law.

Desai's body was found near Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, on Sunday, after he went missing 12 days ago.

After nearly two weeks of searching for the boy, his father was taken in for questioning at the weekend and was later arrested and charged with kidnapping.

Max expressed his shock that the boy's father might be responsible for the act.

"It is a worrying fact that threats to the safe world of our children comes from the household and families that are supposed to protect children from the outside world," expressed Max.

He said the case would be properly investigated to ensure that the perpetrator paid for his callous deed.
