Pretoria - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has expressed concern over the killing of two teenage girls in Dobsonville, Soweto, on Wednesday morning, and called on anyone with information to assist police in their investigation.
“We urge anyone who can assist to bring to book those who committed this terrible act to call the police,” said Mokonyane.
The bodies of two school girls aged 15 and 16 years-old were found in an open field near Extension 2. The two girls were dressed in the school uniform of George Khosa Secondary School.
On Wednesday, Major-General Tebello Mosikili, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for detective services in Gauteng, said the 15-year-old was positively identified by her mother while the second girl is still unknown.
“They were found with cuts to the body and neck. Three black candles and two new razor blades were found on the scene,” Mosikili said.
No arrests have been made in connection with the murders. The next of kin of the second girl has not yet been located or informed.
The Police's Occult Unit has taken over the investigation.
Mokonyane said government was deeply concerned about the levels of violence against women and children.
“I am appealing to communities to protect girl children and women. We are also calling on the police to ensure that those responsible for the murder of these innocent girls faces the full might of the law.
“We cannot allow the abuse against women and children to rear its ugly head again in our society,” she said.
