Pretoria - One person was found dead in a wreckage of a plane that crashed in the Hartebeespoort Dam area on Wednesday morning.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) said a South African Police Service (SAPS) helicopter went on a search for the wreckage shortly after they were notified about the crash.

"We are pleased to report that the wreckage was located in the same area. Unfortunately one deceased person was also located at the wreckage," said CAA communications manager, Phindiwe Gwebu.

It is believed that the aircraft took off from Krugersdorp and it was going to Wonderboom airport for maintenance.

Gwebu said CAA investigators are still on the scene gathering information to aid their investigation.
