Pretoria - The North West province will exchange business opportunities with the Henan province of China when a delegation from that country visits SA next week.
Premier Supra Mahumapelo will host the Chinese delegation.
“The delegation that will be led by Vice-Governor Li Ya will visit the province on a mission to forge tight working relations and exchange of business opportunities among the two provinces,” said the Premier’s office.
The event will start on Wednesday and conclude on Friday. The Premier’s office said key to the three-day programme will be the hosting of a business seminar where businesspeople from around the province will interact with business associations from China.
Investment opportunities in the sectors of agriculture, culture, tourism, mining, infrastructure and construction will be among the key areas of discussion.
It is expected that a tour of the Mahikeng cultural sites will be undertaken as part of the programme to promote the province’s rich culture and heritage to the Chinese. Cultural groups from China will showcase their performances to the delegates and communities at the Mmabatho Convention Centre.
Premier Mahumapelo said the occasion will have great benefits for all parties. He said the provincial government sees the visit as a strategic platform to present its vision to rebrand, reposition and renew the province.
“What pleases us most is that their overall mission is to bolster economic development opportunities in the sectors of agriculture, culture and tourism, which we have prioritised as key pillars for the province’s economic growth,” he said.
The Chinese visit to the province follows the declaration of 2015 as the Year of China in South Africa by both Presidents Zuma of South Africa and Xi of China. The campaign aims to strengthen economic, social and political relations between the two countries. 2014 was the Year of South Africa in China.
Activities for the China Week in North West will be attended by, among others, the Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, business people from China and from around North West, cultural groups from both countries, as well as the leadership of the provincial government. - SAnews.gov.za
