Bafana eager to face Paraguay

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Pretoria - Bafana Bafana head coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira, says the international friendly match against Paraguay will be a good test for his side.

He said unlike the Brazilian teams that are technically sound, Paraguay is very physical and they enjoy high balls, meaning that his defence will have a busy night on Wednesday.

The last time the two teams met was two years ago in Pretoria, where Bafana defeated the South Americans 3-0.

Parreira said his team is ready to take on Paraguay in their own backyard.

"We have been in Brazil for the last three weeks and the performance of the team has been very positive. I think the confidence of our boys is slowly returning after playing so many warm-up matches.

"It will be a good way to gauge where we are in terms of our progress," he said.

Bafana has played seven warm-up matches with local Brazilian teams, winning five and drawing two.

Ranked in 9th position of the FIFA World Ranking, Paraguay will host Bafana at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion on Wednesday. The match will kick-off at 7:30 pm, South African time.
