Switzerland - Bafana Bafana lost 2-nil to Portugal on Tuesday evening, in an internationally friendly aimed at preparing the national team for the upcoming Confederations Cup.

Although Bafana Bafana was outclassed by Portugal, the national team's performance was not all bad.

The European side took a lead in the third minute of the game with the header from defender Bruno Alves after South African goalkeeper Itumelang Khune missed a corner from Chelsea star, Deco.

The national side picked up momentum after conceding a first goal and striker Bernard Parker tried to score an equalizer in the 8th minute which was denied by Portuguese goalkeeper, Eduardo.

Portugal attacked using Manchester United right winger, Nani, who nearly scored a second goal after Deco's free-kick went just inches over the post and just after few minutes Khune denied the lanky Nani to a goal.

South Africa lost a great chance in the 35th minute when Parker's feeble shot was stopped by the Portuguese goalkeeper after a great pass from Teko Modise, who did not have as great a game as was anticipated.

The players went to break with Portugal, who started with World Footballer of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench, leading with one goal to nil.

Portugal, who is struggling in the 2010 FIFA World Cup-South Africa qualifying games, got their second goal from Edinho after the South Africans were unable to defend the corner from Deco.

Bafana Bafana Coach Joel Santana introduced Mabuti Khanyeza, Katlego Mashego and Surprise Moriri, to boost the striking force but the Portuguese defense, led by Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho, was well equipped to stop South Africa's ammunition.

Bafana Bafana will play a last friendly match against Poland on 6 June before the start of the Champions of Champions tournament.
