Pretoria – The North West provincial government has set aside R3 million for the erection of statues of JB Marks and Moses Kotane.
North West MEC for Finance, Wendy Joy Nelson, made the announcement today during the presentation of the province’s budget speech in Mahikeng.
“We celebrate them for their selfless struggles,” she said.
The mortal remains of the two struggle heroes were repatriated from Moscow earlier this month. Both JB Marks and Moses Kotane died in the 1970s. They were buried in Moscow after they had left South Africa for Russia in 1963 to lobby the international community to support the fight against apartheid.
Kotane’s remains will be reburied at his home village of Pella in Moses Kotane Local Municipality on Saturday, 14 March.
JB Marks will be buried the following week in Ventersdorp. – SAnews.gov.za
