Pretoria - Cabinet has encouraged all South Africans to participate in the National Heritage Day celebrations.

"Cabinet calls on South Africans to participate in activities that give expression to the theme of the day and the month," cabinet spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said on Thursday.

Heritage Day is celebrated annually on 24 September, where the public is encouraged to celebrate their cultural heritage.

The national celebrations will be held in Mpumalanga under the theme, 'Celebrating the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle in South Africa.'

According to the Department of Arts and Culture, President Jacob Zuma will be invited to deliver the keynote address.

The department says Liberation Heritage is about the preservation of the history of the struggle against imperialism, colonialism and other oppressive systems. - BuaNews
