Report police killers

Thursday, August 13, 2015

Pretoria - Cabinet has called on communities to come forward and report all those responsible for the senseless attacks and killings of members of the South African Police Services.

“The senseless murders not only rob the country and society of law-enforcement officers, but they also deprive families of husbands, wives, brothers, sisters and parents,” Cabinet said on Thursday, following its ordinary meeting on Wednesday.

The call follows the recent spate of police killings in the country.

A total of 52 police officers have been killed since January, compared to 47 for the same period last year.

Cabinet said such senseless killings should be condemned by all South Africans as policemen and policewomen are central in protecting communities from criminal elements in our society.

“Cabinet calls on those with information about these senseless murders to come forward and work with law-enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are arrested and face the full might of the law.”

South Africans at large, including President Jacob Zuma, have expressed outrage at these killings with calls for the re-examination of police safety strategy to enable the police to respond effectively when attacked. - SAnews.gov.za
