Pretoria - Revered liberation struggle stalwart Reginald September is to receive a special provincial official funeral, says the Presidency.
September, 90, passed away in Cape Town at the weekend.
He played a significant role in transforming South Africa through a number of positions including being a trade unionist, Member of Parliament, executive committee member of the ANC and SACP and leading the South African Coloured People's Organisation.
“President Jacob Zuma has declared a Special Provincial Official Funeral for … Reginald September. The Special Provincial funeral is reserved for distinguished persons as decided by the President of the Republic,” said the Presidency in a statement on Wednesday.
The President has also instructed that the National Flag be flown at half-mast in Gauteng on the day of the funeral.
Further details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated by the Gauteng Provincial Government. – SAnews.gov.za
