The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating Monday’s robbery at an upmarket jewellery store in Menlyn Mall, in Pretoria.

On Monday just after 18:00, four unidentified men wearing beanies and hats entered the mall and proceeded to the Vault store where they used a hammer to smash the display window, police said.

They went off with several Rolex watches.

Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said mall security officers tried to stop the suspects as they tried to flee in two white vehicles, one of them a BMW, via Gobie Street.

However, the suspects fired shots at the security guards before speeding off in an unknown direction.

No one was injured during the incident.

“The suspects are still at large and anybody that can assist the Brooklyn SAPS with information can contact the station on 012 3661735/6.  Information can also be given anonymously by phoning 08600 10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211,” said Weilbach.

Communities are once again urged to report any suspicious persons, vehicles -- especially ones without number plates -- or circumstances to the police immediately by phoning the 10111 emergency-number. – SAnews.gov.za
