Pretoria- Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor has wished Bafana Bafana victory in their opening match against Mexico on Friday at Soccer City.

Pandor, who was not shy to put her own football skills on display at the Union Buildings on Friday, congratulated the players and their head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira for their twelve match unbeaten streak and most notably their historic 5-nil win over Guatemala.

"As South Africa, we are filled with a profound sense of pride not only because we are the first African country to host this prestigious tournament, but also because it provides the African continent with a unique opportunity to refute all the negative perceptions that some may hold about our continent and the capabilities of its people.

"We assure you that as you come closer to taking this bold step, each time you step onto the field each and every South African will be with you. We have no doubt in your ability to go out there and make South Africa proud," she said.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to visit the team at its training camp in Johannesburg this afternoon.
