Murder suspect hands himself to police

Pretoria - A 33-year-old man, who was on the run after the brutal murder of his two-year-old daughter, in Madibeng village in Bolobedu, Limpopo, has handed himself to police.

It is alleged the suspect went to his 23-year-old girlfriend’s house on Sunday night and an argument ensued between him and his girlfriend’s 42-year-old father. The suspect then used a knife and stabbed his girlfriend and her father several times.

The two fled the scene with stab wounds, leaving the two-year-old in the house. The suspect then vented his anger on his daughter by allegedly crushing her against the wall before setting the house alight with the little girl inside.

The child suffered serious burn wounds and was pronounced dead on arrival at Ga-Kgapane Hospital.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola, was dismayed upon receiving the information about another child needlessly and brutally killed by a parent.

“This disturbing trend of people venting their anger on innocent children has to end.  This is the third child we have lost in two weeks.

“Had the suspect not given up I would have used all the resources available at my disposal and exhaust all avenues in endeavours to bring the suspect to book,” he said.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Bolobedu Magistrate Court soon. – SAnews.gov.za
