Mpuma constables dismissed for involvement in murder

Pretoria - Two Mpumalanga police constables have been dismissed following internal disciplinary hearings relating to the murder of Mbombela local municipality speaker Jimmy Mohlala.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela dismissed Dumisani Stanley Mhlanga, 34, and Musa Finish Mkhabela, 3.

"The two were identified as suspects in the murder of Mohlala," said Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Hlathi on Saturday. Mohlala was gunned down at his home in 2009.

Among others the two faced charges including corruption and violation of the South African Police Service's Code of Conduct of which they were found guilty with a dismissal effective from 8 March 2011.

"No member of the police service will be involved in serious unlawful acts and think he or she won't be punished for their criminal behaviour. The evidence gathered suggests that the constables were at the murder scene using state resources for untested yet questionable reasons, which warranted an official removal from the Police Service," said Lieutenant General Ntobela.

The two are also due to appear at the KaNyamazane Magistrate's Court on 23 March.
