Pretoria - Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has sent her deepest condolences to the family of three girls, who died on Monday morning, during a tragic fire at a North West school for the deaf.
The Department of Basic Education said the tragic fire broke out at around 1am in the girl’s hostel building at the school, in Leeuwdoringstad.
“A further 53 learners were admitted for trauma and smoke inhalation at the Nic Bodenstein Hospital in Wolmaranstad. The Minister wishes the injured learners a speedy recovery,” said the department.
Minister Motshekga said she knows words cannot console the family members who have lost their precious loved ones in such a horrific way at this point, “but they must know that government is doing everything in its power to get to the bottom of what caused the blaze and hopefully provide some solace to the parents of these girls who were just about to reach the peak of their youth”.
Minister Motshekga has been given assurances from the Provincial Government team set up by the Premier’s Office that a full forensic investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. - SAnews.gov.za
