Pretoria - Two suspects are expected to make their first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court today, following their arrest on Saturday for allegedly dealing drugs.
The South African Police Services (SAPS) on Sunday said the suspects, both aged 51, were arrested on their arrival in Cape Town from Gauteng. They are employees of a long distance bus company.
SAPS said the arrest occurred during the crime intelligence drive operation where a search warrant was obtain and utilised by Cape Town Central police members, with the assistance of Rapid Railway officials.
“During the search of the bus 2kg heroin, 2kg cocaine, 2kg dagga compressed with cocaine and packs of dagga wrapped in plastic, with an estimated street value R2 million. The drugs were hidden inside the bus at the driver’s compartment area,” said SAPS.
SAPS said the bus, which was confiscated and handed in at Cape Town Central Police Station, will be used as an exhibit during court proceedings.
Meanwhile, five suspects who were arrested in Polokwane during a special operation over a week ago for possession of and suspected dealing in drugs, will make their second appearance at the Polokwane Magistrates' Court on 28 July.
This after their brief appearances on Friday.
SAPS said the suspects were arrested during a special intelligence driven operation in Polokwane over three days last week.
“Chiadikaobi Onwuka was arrested for possession of 132 bags of CAT and nine bags of crystal meth, five rocks of cocaine as well as small bags of dagga. He also had R30 000 in his possession.
"Kenneth Maduabuchukwu was arrested for possession of four small bags of CAT and 4 bags of dagga.
"Antoni Okeke was arrested for being in possession of CAT as well as an unlicensed fire arm and Hing Choi was arrested for being in possession of crystal meth and Andy Ma for being in possession of dagga,” said SAPS.
SAPS said all suspects appeared in court on Friday and were remanded in custody until their next appearance on 28 July. - SAnews.gov.za
