Pretoria- President Jacob Zuma has thanked South African citizens and everyone in the country for ensuring a peaceful and joyous holiday period.

This comes as large numbers of people make their way back to work from Monday.

“I would like to thank all those who worked hard during the festive period. This includes the members of the South African Police Service who continue to work hard to keep all in the country safe and ensured visibility nationwide through Operation Fiela.

“We also acknowledge the hard work and long hours put in by the road and traffic authority staff as well as the emergency care workers and health professionals in hospitals and clinics," said President Zuma.

“We also recognise and appreciate the contribution of staff in hospitality establishments. Most importantly, we thank all South Africans for extending a warm welcome to the many tourists who visit our country each year.”

The President said the warmth and hospitality of the South African people and top class establishments and facilities are some of the key selling points for the tourism industry.

“We thank all for the successful, joyous and peaceful holidays.’’
