Mpumalanga offender killed in blaze

Pretoria – One offender has died while another is in hospital following a fire at the Barbeton Youth Correctional Centre in Mpumalanga.

“One offender passed on and another is in hospital while 17 others escaped unhurt after they set alight their cell at Barberton Youth Correctional Centre in Mpumalanga last night,” the Department of Correctional Services said on Sunday.

The Chief Deputy Commissioner of Incarceration and Corrections and acting Regional Commissioner are on their way to the centre to get first-hand information and investigate the incident. - SAnews.gov.za
