Pretoria - Services are returning to normal countrywide as striking municipal workers are back on the job after new wage agreements were reached with the South African Local Government Association (Salga).
On Wednesday, Salga and the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) signed the job evaluation, wage curve and disciplinary code agreements.
The wage curve would guarantee that each and every employee is remunerated at the 50th percentile of the relevant job according to their task level. Eligible employees will receive nine months' back pay.
The parties have also agreed that Salga's disciplinary code will no longer make use of private lawyers. The agreement is binding as of 1 July and will run until 30 June 2012.
