Pretoria - A South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier has died and another seriously wounded in an ambush with rebels in Sudan’s Darfur region.
The soldiers are deployed in Sudan as part of the UN-AU hybrid mission in Sudan, commonly known as the United Nations and African Union Mission in Sudan (UNAMIS).
Spokesperson Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga said particulars of the deceased will be released once the family or next of kin have been informed.
Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Maphisa Nqakula; the Chief of the South African National Defence Force; chief of the joint operations division and chief of the South African Army have all conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends and comrades of the deceased and wish the injured member a speedy recovery. – SAnews.gov.za
