SA, Vietnam police to increase cooperation

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Pretoria - Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa will seek to strengthen police cooperation between South Africa and Vietnam when he visits that country on Wednesday.

Mthethwa will hold bilateral talks with Vietnamese Public Security Minister Tran Dai Quang.

The visit follows on a meeting in South Africa in June, when a Letter of Intent on police cooperation was signed between the two countries.

Discussions are expected to focus on how the two ministries can cooperate with regards to preventing, combating and investigating crime.

They will also consolidate and share work experience, as well as explore other means of building cooperation.

Mthethwa will also address the Vietnamese National Assembly Committee on Security and National Defense and visit the People's Police Academy to observe some of their policing programmes.

Justice Minister Jeff Radebe will act as Police Minister during Mthethwa's absence.
