Polokwane- Limpopo premier, Cassel Mathale, will lead a provincial delegation to China on a trade and investment promotion mission.
The delegation, which leaves for China on Sunday, will participate in the 2010 World Coal-to-Liquids Congress in Beijing, where experts and investors will share experiences and expertise in the development of coal-to-liquid technology and new forms of beneficiation opportunities that can complement conventional electricity generation.
"Our new Limpopo Employment Growth and Development Plan identifies the need for downstream beneficiation of coal and diversification. Therefore this congress in Beijing could not have come at a better time," said Mathale.
"We would also like to take this opportunity to applaud the Word Bank on its decision to lend R28-billion to Eskom to complete the Medupi power station in Lephalale. We believe this will go a long way towards responding to the challenge of continuous power outages and cuts in the province, the country and the entire SADC region," Mathale said.
Mathale and his delegation will also have meetings with potential investors in the coal sector and key policy makers from the National Planning and Reform Commission, the governor of Inner Mongolia and China's Shenhua Group, the world's largest maker of oil from coal.
