Zuma to meet musicians, actors next week

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma is expected to meet with South African musicians and actors next week to discuss their role and contribution to social cohesion and nation building.

The President will also report back on issues raised during his first meeting with the industry in 2008.

According to the Presidency, Zuma will meet with the musicians and actors in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

"He will be fulfilling a promise made during the response to the State of the Nation address that government would meet with the creative industry sector to discuss issues affecting them," said the Presidency.

It said that issues of concern to the artists relate to broadcasting content, intellectual property rights, industry unity, anti-piracy, tax education and participation in 2010 FIFA World Cup activities.

He will be accompanied by a number of ministers including the Ministers in the Presidency Trevor Manuel and Collins Chabane, Minister of Arts and Culture, Lulu Xingwana and her Deputy Minister Paul Mashatile, Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Higher Education, Dr Blade Nzimande, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Jeff Radebe, Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, Minister of Communications, Siphiwe Nyanda and the Premier of Gauteng, Nomvula Mokonyane.
