Pretoria – Young and old gathered in Pretoria on Wednesday to witness the cortege for late former President Nelson Mandela.

The cortege left 1 Military Hospital at 7am and arrived at the Union Buildings, where the body of Madiba will lie in state for the next three days.

Members of the public will be able to view the body from noon until 5pm at the Nelson Mandela Amphitheatre.

One of those who arrived to mourn the loss of the struggle icon was Abraham Msimang.

He told SAnews that he was saddened by Madiba’s death. “Madiba has done a lot for us and the country as a whole.”

Francisca Lewis said although Madiba was no more, there was cause for celebration, especially considering how far the country had come in the last 19 years of democracy.

“He fought for our liberation and today we are enjoying the fruits of democracy. As a country, we are going to miss Madiba,” she said. - SAnews.gov.za
