Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has officially launched its Vision 2055 plan, which is aimed at improving the quality of life for its citizens, revitalising the economy and industrial development, regenerating townships and attracting investment.
Speaking at the launch at the Union Buildings in Pretoria last night, Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa said the principles, goals and processes outlined in Tshwane Vision 2055 emerged as the most preferred, purely due to their superior and realistic nature as the only roadmap that can guarantee a better life for all the city’s citizens.
“… We remain convinced of the superiority of Vision 2055 as the most appropriate strategic roadmap towards breaking the cycle of generational poverty, inequality and underdevelopment within the city.
“We consider this Vision as a crucial rallying point and platform to establish strategic partnerships with communities and stakeholders to imagine, transform, remake and build a cohesive and adaptable society,” he said.
Tshwane Vision 2055 will be implemented throughout the city’s medium-term plans. For instance, the roll-out of the Tshwane Bus Rapid Transit, set to start next year, is part of the Vision.
Residents of Tshwane and of the rest of South Africa were given an opportunity to take part in drawing up a vision to remake the nation’s capital city. Ramokgopa asked citizens to now get on board to help the city realise the goals spelled out in the Vision.
“The implementation of Tshwane Vision 2055 is an exciting challenge that we cannot wait to put in place …” he said, thanking all the role players who participated and contributed in the visioning processes.
The year 2055 will be a significant milestone for South Africa, as it will be marking 100 years of the signing of the Freedom Charter.
It will also mark 200 years of the founding and establishment of Pretoria as the capital of the former exclusive Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek in 1855.
The City of Tshwane views Tshwane Vision 2055 as its “game changing” vision, which will encourage the establishment of innovative partnerships to change the City’s future. The Vision also recognises the youth as being central to the attainment of the city’s development goals. – SAnews.gov.za
