Three nabbed for business robbery in Alberton

Pretoria - Police on Wednesday arrested three suspects with a possible link to a business robbery in Tulisa Park, Alberton.

The three suspects – aged between 30 and 40 years - were nabbed for possession of stolen property after they tried to sell tablets, cell phones and laptops.

Two more suspects escaped during the bust but police say their search is continuing.

A large number of laptops, tablets and cellular phones is believed to have been stolen during a business robbery early on Wednesday morning.

A Kalahari business warehouse in Sebenza was robbed of several cellular phones, laptops, tablets and other electronic equipment worth more than R2 million.

According to Gauteng police, the suspects entered the premises and ordered the workers to lie down while they robbed the warehouse before fleeing the scene.

The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba, says they have rallied a team of experts to follow up every possible lead to establish the origin of these items and to see if the suspects can be linked to other similar robberies.

“The links or possible links to a similar warehouse business robbery in the same area last Sunday will be investigated,” said Mothiba.

On Sunday, about six suspects entered a business park complex in Sebenza, Kempton Park, and robbed one of the warehouses of cell phones, iPhones, iPads and other electronic equipment worth R15 million.

Mothiba urged community members to be their eyes and ears.

“The reward of R250 000 for information that can lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects is still on offer,” he said.
