Tell us how to spend our budget - MEC Phosa

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Mbombela - Mpumalanga citizens are being given a chance to suggest how government should spend public money in the coming financial year.

Provincial Finance MEC Pinky Phosa plans to travel around the province next week to hear how residents would like her office to allocate the 2012/2013 government budget, which kicks in on 1 April.

"Phosa will listen to and engage the community to ensure the provincial budget is responsive to the wishes of the people of Mpumalanga," said department spokesman Joseph Mkhonto.

She will deliver the budget at the provincial legislature in Mbombela on 6 March.

Phosa will visit two towns in Mpumalanga's highveld, starting with Elukwatini near Badplaas on Monday, followed by Ermelo on Wednesday.

Mkhonto said Phosa will first address community members and then listen to their suggestions. "They will be able to shape her presentation of the provincial budget for the financial year of 2012/13," said Mkhonto.

Mpumalanga residents who do not live near these two towns can still have their say by sending suggestions to the department.

People can write and send their inputs to info@mpg.gov.za or fax their suggestions to 013 766 9449.

Handwritten suggestions can also be submitted to the department of finance's regional offices in KwaMhlanga, Bushbuckridge, Evander, Middelburg, Elukwatini and Tonga.
