Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has authorised the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate certain matters relating to the affairs of the Lesedi Local Municipality.

The proclamation authorises the SIU to investigate the alleged procurement of or contracting of goods, work or services by or on behalf of the municipality and payments made in a manner that was not fair, transparent, equitable and contrary to the law.

The investigations will further look into the unauthorised, irregular or fruitless and wasteful expenditure incurred by the municipality, which is situated in the Sedibeng District of Gauteng. This is in respect of refuse removal services, the supply and delivery of fuel, automated time and attendance systems and organisational re-engineering related service.

The SIU will also look into the failure by the municipality to pay timeously its debts, failure or refusal by the Performance Audit Committee of the municipality to submit prescribed audit reports to the Municipal Council, as well as any unlawful or improper conduct by councillors and officials of the municipality. - SAnews.gov.za
