Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange has vowed to find the perpetrators who shot and killed a police officer in Protea South, Soweto, on Wednesday.

While police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting, preliminary reports indicate that the brigadier had just arrived home between 18:30 and 19:00 on Wednesday evening when he was accosted by unknown suspects who then shot him.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was certified dead.

“Police will leave no stone unturned to find the perpetrators of these incessant and heartless attacks on our members. In fact, we will not be deterred or discouraged from staying true to our commitment and calling, which is to serve and to protect the residents of Gauteng and the country,” De Lange lamented.

He went on to express his condolences to the family. “On behalf of the leadership of police in Gauteng, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of our slain member,” said the provincial commissioner. – SAnews.gov.za
