Investigation into manhandling of woman at Jeppe Police Station

Friday, August 17, 2018

Gauteng police have condemned the alleged manhandling of a woman by police officers at the Jeppe Police Station in Johannesburg.

The first video, which has been circulated on social media, shows a woman being pulled off of a set of chairs by two police officers and an unknown woman dressed in civilian clothes. In a second video she is seen being dragged on the floor.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange said such behaviour is unacceptable.

"It is totally unacceptable that a member of the public, more so a woman, should be ill-treated in such a manner. It is also appalling that a woman is manhandled by the very people who are supposed to be prioritising her safety."

The Provincial Commissioner has authorised an urgent departmental investigation into the matter. -SAnews.gov.za
