Friday, May 5, 2017

Pretoria - The Gauteng Provincial Government has requested schools to conduct an early morning assembly today to observe a moment of silence for the 18 learners who passed away in a tragic minibus accident in Verena, on 21 April.

The provincial government said the funerals of 16 learners will take place at Verena this weekend, one in Limpopo and another one in KwaZulu-Natal.

Their memorial service took place at the Verena Sports Grounds on Thursday.

The 18 learners, who attended Refano Primary School and Mahlenga High School, died together with two adults, when their minibus taxi collided head-on with a truck and caught fire on the R25 between Verena and Bronkhorstpruit. Several children had been burnt beyond recognition due to the fire. - SAnews.gov.za
