Pretoria - A total of 4463 new South African National Defence Force (SANDF) recruits will begin their training this month.

Many of the recruits have started to report at various SANDF Military Bases, while over 1000 of them are expected to assemble at the Johannesburg Park Station for final instructions before being ferried to various military bases.

The new recruits will undergo various training aimed to providing specialists to the SANDF such as engineers, pilots, doctors, dentists and naval combat officers.

SANDF spokesperson Sam Mkhwanazi said on Thursday the recruits were fit and deserving young South Africans from all nine provinces of the country.

Mkhwanazi said the new recruits joined the military under department's Military Skills Development System (MSDS), which is aimed at increasing the number of personnel in the SANDF.

"The system also provides the country's youth with opportunities to acquire scarce skills."
