Thursday, May 11, 2017

Pretoria – Focus will switch to South Africa’s efforts to eradicate the bucket toilet system when the country marks Sanitation and Hygiene Week.

From Wednesday, 16 May until Monday, 22 May, the country will observe Sanitation and Hygiene Week under the theme ‘Sanitation for Health and Dignity’.

Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo on Thursday said government is committed to bringing dignity to South Africans through the provision of adequate sanitation services.

The week will be used to raise awareness on the importance of sanitation and promote sanitation best practices.

“The main focus during the week will be the priority Bucket Eradication Programme. This will see the handover of waterborne sanitation to communities in the Nketoana Local Municipality in the Free State and Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality in the Northern Cape as part of accelerating services to replace bucket toilets,” said Minister Dlodlo during a post Cabinet media briefing. – SAnews.gov.za
