SA, China to work together on collective bargaining

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Pretoria –South Africa and China are planning to work together to tackle labour issues such as collective bargaining, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said on Thursday.

Oliphant said this after meeting with Xiaochu Wang, the Chinese deputy minister of human resources in social security on the side-lines of the International Labour Conference 2013 in Geneva.

In a statement, Oliphant said the two countries – who are both part of Brics - could learn a lot from each other on matters pertaining to collective bargaining, industrial relations, inspections, enforcement services, and social protection.

“Previously we have worked with China on the training of inspectors. We have indicated that we can learn from employment services while they have indicated a need to study our social protection like the work we are doing at the Unemployment Insurance Fund,” she said. – SAnews.gov.za
