RSR investigates Soweto train accident

Pretoria - The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is investigating the passenger train collision which took place in Soweto yesterday.

A team of the RSR's inspectors were at the scene of the collision which took place at approximately 5.50 pm.

A Metrorail train which was travelling from Mzimhlophe Station, towards Phomolong station in Orlando, collided with a stationary Soweto Business Express train.

The collision resulted in 857 people injured. No fatalities have been reported. The injured were assisted by emergency services at the scene while others were taken to nearby hospitals.

Commuters using the Soweto Business Express 2 will be greatly affected as the train will be out of operation until further notice. Commuters are therefore requested to make alternative arrangements.
