Rape suspect to appear in court

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Pretoria – A 24-year-old man is expected to appear in the Kimberly Magistrate Court today for raping a six-week-old baby, on Tuesday, in Galeshewe.

“We understand that the man who was arrested is the baby’s uncle. Whilst I am pleased that the perpetrator has been arrested, the incident and similar others which have taken place over the past couple of days in Galeshewe is something of huge concern to the police and broader community,” said National Police Commissioner General Riah Phiyega on Wednesday.

General Phiyaga said they will continue to work with the community to try to find ways of ensuring that such incidents do not occur.

Senior police officers have visited the family. The baby is currently in the intensive care unit.

Today, the National Commissioner and other community leaders will visit the baby’s family in Galeshewe to hold a prayer session with the community. – SAnews.gov.za
