Radebe, Presidency to review executive ethics code

Pretoria - Cabinet has studied a report by Public Protector, Thulisile Madonsela, which found President Jacob Zuma had violated the executive code of ethics by failing to declare his interests on time.

In the report, the Public Protector acknowledged that certain aspects pertaining to Zuma's obligations to declare needed to be clarified.

Government spokesperson, Themba Maseko, said Cabinet decided that the Presidency and Justice Minister, Jeff Radebe, would review the Code to address the gaps that have been identified in the Public Protector's report.

"The Public Protector's report and the President's response to the findings will be submitted to the Speaker of Parliament shortly for finalisation," said Maseko.

The report, released last month, found that Zuma had breached the Code by missing the deadline to declare his interests within eight months.

By law Zuma had to declare his interests within 60 days of taking office, but he missed the deadline and did so only after the press pointed this out prompting the DA to ask the public protector to investigate him.
