Public hearings into Eskom tariff application extended in Gauteng

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has extended public hearings into Eskom’s revenue application.

“Nersa announced today that the public hearings on Eskom’s revenue application, scheduled to take place in Gauteng on Thursday, 16 and Friday, 17 November 2017, has been extended to Monday, 20 November 2017,” said the energy regulator on Wednesday.

The regulator extended the public hearings due to the large number of registrants to present at the hearing. The hearings, which got underway on 30 October, were due to conclude in Gauteng on 17 November.

The public hearings in Gauteng will take place at the Midrand Conference Centre and will commence at 9am.

To date, the regulator has held public hearings across the country into Eskom’s request for a 19.9% average increase in electricity tariffs for 2018/19.

Eskom is asking the regulator for a total allowable revenue of R219.5 billion.

Meanwhile, Nersa’s decision on the revenue application is expected on 7 December. - SAnews.gov.za
