Presidential Hotline to stay open

Pretoria - The Ministry for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation has dismissed as false media reports that the Presidential Hotline might be closed.

"We wish to state that the hotline will not be closed and will remain offering services to the people of South Africa," said the Presidency on Saturday.

The Presidency issued a statement in September on the first anniversary of the Presidential Hotline, which indicated that the hotline will be reviewed.

The statement read: "The Department for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation will conduct a first year assessment of the hotline to look at challenges, successes and opportunities to improve the hotline.

"The review will inform the interventions that need to be introduced to make the hotline more effective."

President Jacob Zuma set up the hotline to give South Africans easier access to the Presidency, and to promote a government that responds to and interacts with its people.

"The hotline is still relevant and continues to receive calls from South Africans who wish to communicate with government," said the Presidency.
