Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma is expected to attend the upcoming 34th Ordinary Summit of Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government, in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, said the review of Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) and the SADC Vision 2050 will form part of discussions at the two-day summit, on 17 August.
“SADC continues to be the primary vehicle for South Africa’s foreign policy on regional development and integration.
“Pertinent issues to be discussed at the Summit include the Review of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan, the SADC Vision 2050, SADC Tribunal and the Food and Nutrition Strategy and Regional Agricultural Policy,” Minister Radebe said on Thursday.
Minister Radebe was briefing reporters following Cabinet’s meeting that was held on Wednesday.
The RISDP is a comprehensive development and implementation framework guiding the regional integration agenda of SADC over a 15 year period (2005-2020).
The plan, that was formulated in March 2001, has the ultimate objective to deepen integration in the region with a view accelerate poverty eradication and the attainment of other economic and non-economic development goals.
The meeting will also discuss the SADC Vision 2050 which aims to provide a framework for a long-term vision for SADC. This as the region seeks to position itself in a context of issues such as climate change. - SAnews.gov.za
