Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has signed a proclamation authorising the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to examine certain matters in respect to the affairs of the Msunduzi Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Presidency on Wednesday said the proclamation was signed in terms of section 2 (1) of the Special Investigating Unit and Special Tribunals Act, 1996.
The Proclamation authorises the SIU, among other things, to investigate allegations of serious maladministration in connection with the affairs of the municipality, improper or unlawful conduct by councillors, officials or employees of the municipality, unlawful appropriation or expenditure of public money or property and unlawful, irregular or unapproved acquisitive act, transaction, measure or practice having a bearing upon state property,
The SIU will also investigate whether there was intentional or negligent loss of public money or damage to public property and unlawful or improper conduct by any person, which has caused or many cause serious harm to the interests of the public or any category thereof. - SAnews.gov.za
