The Presidency responds to ruling in Pikoli application

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

The Presidency has noted the ruling in the North Gauteng High Court today in the application by former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Vusi Pikoli interdicting President Jacob Zuma from making a permanent appointment of a new NDPP.

The President respects the ruling and will abide by it.

It reiterates President Jacob Zuma's view that the appointment of a permanent head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is critical to the country's efforts to tackle crime.

The Presidency will make further comment, if necessary, once it has studied the written judgment.
