Police investigate shooting involving Corporal

Pretoria - The South African Police Service (SAPS) and Military Police Agency have launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving a Corporal from the 101 Air Supply Unit.

The Lance Corporal allegedly shot and killed his wife in Centurion on Sunday and later shot himself with a R5 military issue rifle.

According to the police, he was on guard duty at the 101 Air Supply Unit on Sunday when he left his post and went home. He allegedly shot his wife at approximately 7:45pm before returning to the unit where he is believed to have opened fire on the Military Police.

A short while later, he fatally shot himself.

South African National Defence Force and Military Veterans spokesperson Colonel Petrus Motlhabane told BuaNews that the department was shocked and saddened by the incident.

"We do not know yet as to what triggered the shooting. We are waiting for the outcome of the investigation," said Colonel Motlhabane.
