Pretoria - The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in the North West has established a Joint Operation Centre to deal with any threats and anarchy that might arise in Ngaka Modiri Molema Districta Municipality.

The department on Saturday said this after it heard a looming threat that services around the district might be cut by those who are not in support of the progressive intervention by the provincial government to the municipality.

The department’s MEC Collen Maine said the department and the police are working tirelessly around the clock to ensure the safety of residents.

“Some departmental and police officials have been deployed in key strategic areas to ensure that the essential services continue uninterrupted and that no life threatening situation erupt,” the MEC said.

He urged community members to remain calm as the situation is being monitored day and night, and that they continue to keep their eyes and ears on the ground.

“If community members suspects anything or want to report any misdemeanour, they can contact our call centre that is operating 24/7 at 018 388 3888,” MEC Maine said. - SAnews.gov.za
