Pretoria - The North West Department of Health and Social Development will embark on a month-long measles and polio immunisation campaign.

The department aims to reach more than 95 percent of all children up to five years of age for measles and 90 percent aged between six months and 15-years-old for polio.

"Measles immunisation targeting all children till the age of five will take place from 12 to 23 April, while polio immunisation will commence on 24 and end on 28 May," the department said on Wednesday.

Immunisation will also include Vitamin A and Deworming and will take place simultaneously with the H1N1 vaccination campaign for frontline health care workers, HIV positive children under the age of 15 on anti-retroviral treatment, pregnant women and patients with lung and heart diseases.

The department has urged parents to take their children for immunisation at their nearest health facilities
